Dylan went home to work and after a shower in the apartment above the Little Knitting Box, Myles handed the keys to Cleo and went to meet Sandy at Marloâs café on Main Street. She was already there, relaxed and chatting away to the waitress serving her coffee. She stood when Myles pushed open the door and enveloped him in a hug.
âYou look flushed,â she said, âdid you race here?â
His hair was still damp and his face hot from the water. âI went running with Dylan. But donât worry, Iâm clean now so ready to get going with the place-setting plans.â At least it would take his mind off work for a bit. Heâd already ignored a phone call once and set his cell phone on silent so they wouldnât be disturbed.
âHow are Dylan and the lovely Cleo?â Sandy asked.
âBusy as ever,â he grinned, and they lost themselves in conversation about the kids, the pregnancy and Mylesâs mumâs love of knitting.
âThe first thing sheâll do when sheâs next here is go to the Little Knitting Box,â he told Sandy. âItâs almost like her second home. Or third, if you count my apartment.â
âYou sound as though you like having her around.â
âActually, I really do.â More than heâd thought, he was looking forward to them coming back to New York. Heâd missed out on a lot with her over the years but his family life had shaped him into the person he was now: hardworking, cautious, and a man who knew what he wanted.
âRight, first things first,â said Sandy. âRemind me of the exact headcount for the wedding.â
âFifty in total.â
âNice round number.â
âWouldâve been fifty-three but there are a few from the UK who canât make it, what with family commitments.â
She opened out a rolled-up piece of paper and flattened it on the table as Myles ordered a latte and another cappuccino for her. âSo we have the top table seating eight, and then another six tables each seating up to eight guests. This diagram shows round tables but do you know if thatâs definitely what the venue has in mind?â
He shrugged. âDo you want me to check with them?â
âNo, it wonât make much difference to who we put with whom. Hopefully theyâll be round though, itâs much more sociable. And more relaxed, I think, which is the atmosphere youâre both going for, am I right?â
âThatâs the idea.â He wished they could carry forward that atmosphere to their day-to-day lives right now.
âThe top table will be rectangular, I remember the lady at the Moonlight Loft & Terrace telling me that part,â Sandy continued.
âWho sits on the top table?â Myles had no idea. Thinking back to Winstonâs wedding, he was definitely sitting there as the best man, but heâd either blocked from his memory who else was sat there with them or else decided it wasnât really important.
âYou and Darcy, obviously,â Sandy smiled, âthen both sets of parents, the chief bridesmaid plus the best man.â Using a pencil she wrote in the names. âNow,
